A fantastic fairy-tale about love and adventures

I can't think of a movie based upon a book or novel by Astrid Lindgren that is bad. Ok, SOME movies are pretty silly... But there's NO ONE that I don't like.

In my opinion "Ronja, the robber's daughter" is one of the greatest Swedish movies ever. I enjoyed it the first time I saw it and I still do.(many years later...) As a child, I always wanted to BE like Ronja; free, independent and with a whole forest to play in.

The music and songs are so right and always makes me wanna sing along.

The characters are unforgettable; Old Skalle-Per, Ronja's caring mother Lovis and her macho-father Mattis.

The best part is when Ronja and Birk moves out into the forest, but nothing is boring. Anyone who likes nice stories, romance and good acting should see this movie.

I give "Ronja Roeverdotter" a big and happy 8+.

Good Scandinavian motion-picture

Astrid Lindgren must have been one of the most cherished book authors in Sweden. She was famous for writing many adventure/fantasy tales for children. Her stories were very appropriate for children.

Many of her childish tales formed the basis for full-length films. Of course, I can't make any sort of judgment on the books, due to my complete lack of knowledge on them. As for the movie adaptations, they're generally interesting to a degree: they're about innocence of childhood, they teach good morals, values and lessons, they are well-filmed and have gorgeous cinematography. Swedes's cinematography is among the world's finest, thanks to its purity, naturalness and beauty. But something is missing in those movies... at least in most which I got to see.

This one is one of their most successful bets but not as good as 'The Brothers Lionheart'. Still, this one is an intrinsically interesting story, however what stuns me the most is the legendary beauty of its scenario.

The original title "Ronja Rövardotter" means "Ronia, the Robber's Daughter" in Swedish. Basically it is the story of two different bands (one of which a robber) that are rivals. Two children (each one from a different band), Birk and Ronja, surprisingly develop a friendship. Together they explore the wilderness of the dark forest and face treacherous birds and gross gnome-like creatures. When forbidden by their respective families to see each other again, they do everything they can to put an end to these old rivalries.

The two kids have very mature acting and their chemistry is excellent: Hanna Zetterberg Struwe as Ronja and Dan Håfström as Birk. Also, these kids have mature and independent personalities, they know what they want and what to fight for, they face danger to follow their dreams.

This should definitely be on Top 250.
