From beginning to the end, the story was nonsensical. Except the hookers with Arabs. That is definitely true. Main characters were BS. Emi's boyfriend would magically find her on a private yacht in a foreign country while she is hooking with her girls. He knew what she was and had no problem with it? Really? Married her anyway and developed a problem with her being a hooker after she quit. She attacked a rich Arab on his yacht? If she did that in real life, she would never leave that yacht alive. Her pimp (Sam) wanted to introduce her to his family in MIlan? No one would beleive that. And lastly, why did she get arrested so many years later? After she got married, had a child, etc... A lot of details do not make sense. And the yacht parties were not filmed in Cannes.

No pun intended - I was not aware of the controversy the movie had stirred up. Polish movies seem to aim for acting out and giving people things to talk about. While this is not nearly as explicit as another movie (that at the time of writing is a trilogy), it does contain a lot of nudity ... and a lot of violence too.

Are we all open to the concept of being bought? Is there a price where we would do something we would otherwise call morally wrong? Like how much would it take for you to sleep with someone? Or are you only "available" for oral satisfaction? To be paid for that is of course. Now before you get outraged at the thought, it is not me who asks that question in the first place - at least not here in this case. It is the movie (or the book I reckon this is based on).

In Germany there are two versions availabel to screen - one of them is cut - around 3 minutes being cut out. I watched that by mistake, but read what I missed out on. To be honest, they could have left that stuff in - but on the other hand, especially the scene towards the end, I am almost thankful they cut it out ... it is abhorring to say the least. But it is part of the movie and it is part of the journey ... a journey that may make you mad! Rightfully so ..

This is a well-made film ... about stupid people who get themselves into difficult situations .... and dishonest people who exploit that stupidity.

The problem is that this film claims to be a great deal more than this. The text narrative at the end tries to convince us that what we just saw was an example of sex-traficking. This is incorrect, insincere, and a slap in the face of people whose lives have been and continue to be touched by this horrible crime.

Sex trafickig is when a weak and defenseless person, like a child or teenager, is kidnapped, cut off from family and support system, and forced into sexual slavery under threat of violence or even murder.

Of course, this is not what this movie is about at all. These are fully grown adult women who are willing participants out of sheer greed and raging hormones. Prostitution is the world's oldest profession, and not all prostitutes are desperate teenage runaways and street corner hookers. Many "high class" escorts actually like their job and even make a very good living doing it.

A better movie about sex traficking is "Taken", or even Rambo 5! I'm sure there are others that I'm just not familiar with. But knowing that atrocities portrayed in "Taken" can and do happen, assigning the label of sex-traficking to the deliberate trashy lifestyle portrayed in "Girls to Buy" is a shameless disservice to the true victims.

Not saying you shouldn't watch this film. Just don't let yourself be had by its pretentious message.
